Bone Creek Recreation Area

The Bone Creek Recreation Area is a great place to go for any type of recreational activity. You can go hiking, camping, fishing, or even hunting. All of these things are very popular in this place, and they all have something to offer you.

Orienteering


Big Bone Lick State Historic Site offers a variety of orienteering trails for both beginners and advanced orienteers. The park is part of the Kentucky Trail Town program.

This park is home to wild bison and features over 50 bird species. It also offers a variety of hiking trails. There are several lodging options for visitors. The campground has 62 full hookup sites. The site includes restrooms and showers.

The park has a swimming pool for campers and a playground. There are also grills and a mini golf course for campers. The campground is open from mid-March to mid-November.

There are two orienteering trails at the park. One is designed for beginners and the other for intermediate orienteers. The course is 4.5 km long and contains 10 checkpoints.

Birding


Located between Fort Scott and Pittsburg, Bone Creek Lake is a 540-acre reservoir. It was intended as a water supply for the surrounding counties, but it has turned into a popular fishing spot and recreational area. There are many species of birds to be seen at this site.

The Discovery Trail is a paved, half-mile trail that meanders along Big Bone Creek. It has interpretive panels and a Megafauna diorama pit. It's open daily from dawn to dusk. The trail also features the "Memo of the Day," an interactive board containing information about the park.

Fishing

The Bone Creek Reservoir is a 540-acre reservoir located in Crawford County, Kansas. The reservoir has a good population of largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie.

In addition to fishing, visitors can enjoy kayaking, swimming, and other outdoor activities. There are two marinas on the lake that offer rentals for boats and canoes. If you prefer to fish from the shore, the best area to look for fish is near the dam and coves.

If you want to do something more exciting than camp, you can enjoy hiking, fishing, or even tubing on the Niobrara River. You will also find a gift shop at the campground. In addition to the water-related activities, the park has a large man-made lake, Bear Lake. There is also a swimming pool, laundry facilities, and showers.

Hunting


One of the best ways to see and enjoy the surrounding area is to go hunting. The mighty Niobrara River is just a few miles from the ranch, and a variety of game animals can be found in the vicinity. If you're not up for the rigors of hunting, the ranch also has a nice barn with corrals, a recently refurbished home, and a surprisingly large treehouse.

For the avid fisherman, Bone Creek Lake is a 540-acre reservoir that is stocked with a good selection of catfish and monster-sized largemouth bass. The lake is a favorite among fishing enthusiasts, and regularly hosts tournaments of the sporty variety. The lake is managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the agency's employees can be seen scooting around the wild on weekends.
