Explore Arcadia Mill

Located in Milton, Florida, the Arcadia Mill is an archaeological site that was once the largest water-powered industrial complex in northwest Florida. Today, visitors can explore the site and learn more about its history. Next article is National Naval Aviation Museum Pensacola

The site includes a visitor center, an elevated boardwalk, and archaeological remains of a sawmill, waterworks, and a mill building. The area also features an archaeology and nature trail. The archaeology and nature area features interpretive trails through the remains of a 19th-century mill structure, including a sawmill and cotton textile mill. The site also features a replica of a turn-of-the-century streetscape. Several hiking trails lead to various points throughout the site. The visitor center contains exhibits and offices to assist visitors.

The site is managed by West Florida Historic Preservation, a part of the University of West Florida. The site is open to the public daily. The Museum of Commerce is also housed within the historic building. It features a replica of a turn-of-the-century warehouse and is also home to a replica 1890s streetscape. The Florida Mill Museum is a small facility, but it is packed with artifacts and videos to entertain visitors. The oldest surviving building in Pensacola, the Old Christ Church, is located on the site. It was built in 1832 and is the oldest surviving building in the state. Other notable buildings include the Dorr House, the Barkley House, and the Lear/Rocheblave House. These structures are furnished with authentic 18th and 19th-century artifacts. The Barkley House is the oldest high house in Pensacola, and the Tivoli House was originally a tavern. The Lavalle House was built in 1805 and is furnished with a variety of 18th and 19th-century artifacts.

The Arcadia Mill is part of the National Register of Historic Places and the U.S. Department of Interior's National Register of Historical Places. The site is accessible to the public. The Visitor's Center offers guided tours, and the site is open seven days a week. The museum is a must-see for any history buff. The site features a replica of a 19th-century water-powered mill technology, and  six-button sound post.

The Arcadia Mill is just one of many historical sites in the area. The Pensacola Museum of History is located on South Jefferson Street and admission tickets are available online. Adults can pay $10, and children ages 3-13 can pay $5. There are also guided tours of the Old Pensacola Village and period-dressed living history interpreters to accompany visitors. Other notable historical sites in the area include the National Naval Aviation Museum and the Pensacola Museum of Art. Both of these museums feature over 4,000 aviation-related artifacts, a 4K movie theater, and several other exhibits.
