History

The historic Pensacola Lighthouse has long been a symbol of the city's rich maritime history. It sits on Naval Air Station Pensacola, home of the Blue Angels, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Its 151-foot tower has 177 steps that visitors can climb to get a bird's eye view of the Gulf Coast. The top offers views of Pensacola Pass (where Pensacola Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico), three historic forts, and the Pensacola skyline.

The museum is located in the old keeper’s quarters and features exhibits on local history, lighthouse history, and more. It also has a gift shop inside the renovated carriage house. Additional info

Exhibits

Located on the grounds of Naval Air Station Pensacola, the Lighthouse A Maritime Museum offers a wide range of interesting exhibits and programs. The museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Escambia County and its maritime heritage and serves visitors across diverse ages, genders, nationalities, and locations.

For example, our Living History series features rooms where visitors can step back in time to learn what life was like for residents of the lighthouse during different periods. We also feature exhibits that focus on women’s involvement in lighthouse keeping and pre-contact indigenous populations in Pensacola.

We also encourage guests to climb the 177 steps up to the historic Pensacola Lighthouse Tower for one of the best views in town. Climbers must be at least 44” tall and children 12 & under cannot climb without a ticketed adult.

Tours

One of the most popular things to do in Pensacola is taking a tour of the Pensacola Lighthouse and Maritime Museum. Located inside Naval Air Station Pensacola, the lighthouse offers an incredible view of the city and the Gulf Coast.

Visitors can climb the 177 steps to the top of the tower and learn about the history of the lighthouse. The tower also has a museum based in the fully restored keeper's quarters.

This lighthouse is a must-see for anyone interested in local history or the history of lighthouses in general. Its 151-foot tall tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and provides stunning views of the Gulf Coast.

The Maritime Museum is open Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun from 10 am to 4 pm. It is recommended to book a tour in advance as it often sells out.

Gift Shop

Located on the Naval Air Station Pensacola base, the Lighthouse A Maritime Museum is the place to go for fun and interesting local history. It is one of the best museums in the region and has won awards for its exhibits and tours.

It is also home to a small but cute gift shop. Located inside the renovated carriage house, it is a great place to pick up a souvenir or two.

There are many things to see at the museum, including a replica of the lighthouse and several artifacts related to local history. However, the highlight is undoubtedly the 160-foot tall tower and the panoramic views of the Gulf Coast from the top.
