Preparation For Eye Surgery

If you’re scheduled to undergo eye surgery, there are several steps you should take beforehand. These steps will help ensure the procedure goes smoothly and you recover successfully.

The first step is to stop wearing contact lenses in the days before your surgery date. This is because contact lenses can alter the measurements that your eye doctor takes and change how your LASIK surgery is performed.

Stop Wearing Contact Lenses

If you wear contact lenses, it is important that you stop wearing them during your preparation for eye surgery. This is to allow your corneas to resume their normal shape before Dr. Wilmarth measures them during your LASIK examination.

In addition, contacts can aggravate dry eyes and cause inflammation of the eyelids, known as blepharitis. If this is the case, your doctor can prescribe a solution to relieve symptoms and choose a different lens type to prevent further damage. Click for more info

Although contact lens overwear is not very common, it can cause serious eye complications, such as infections of the cornea (keratitis). These problems occur when abrasions form on your corneal epithelium. These abrasions can spread infection, which can lead to loss of vision.

Take Your Medications

If you have any medications, talk to your doctor about taking them during preparation for eye surgery. Medications that affect how you react to sedatives should be stopped or reduced before the procedure, and other medications may need to be adjusted.

You should also take an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops, as prescribed by your ophthalmologist or physician. These medicines are needed to prevent infection and inflammation after surgery, as well as to heal the eye.

Your doctor will give you instructions on how to administer these drops correctly. You should only use one drop from each bottle in the operative eye at a time, and wait five minutes between them to allow the medicine to absorb before putting the next one in.

In addition, you may be given an over-the-counter pain medication such as Tylenol or Advil before and after surgery. However, don’t overdo it because you could rub your eye or cause an infection that will need to be treated by the surgeon.

Avoid Smoking

Smoking is extremely detrimental to your overall health and can cause a variety of negative side effects. Among them are a higher risk for heart disease, cancer, and several eye diseases. This article

The eyes are particularly susceptible to the toxins in cigarette smoke, which can interfere with their ability to heal after surgery. Additionally, smoking is known to raise the risk of developing a corneal flap infection after LASIK, which can result in more permanent damage to the patient’s eyes.

Patients who are smokers can reduce their chances of experiencing these complications by stopping smoking at least three weeks before undergoing LASIK, and abstaining for a few weeks after the procedure. This will help the patient’s eyes heal properly and achieve the best possible results.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for your health and well-being, and it has a significant effect on the health of your eyes. It is important to get enough sleep every night to ensure that your eyes have the time and rest they need to heal and repair themselves after a long day.

The CDC recommends that adults need at least seven hours of sleep per night to feel rested and healthy. However, many people only get less than that amount and this can have an adverse effect on your health.

This can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes, all of which can have a negative impact on your eyes.

While there is no single solution for sleep problems, a few steps can be taken to help you achieve more restful sleep. For example, try to go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning.
