History

Pensacola FL is one of the most historic areas in Florida, and Seville Square has an incredible history as well. This neighborhood is filled with beautiful old homes and plenty of local businesses to visit.

The area was originally inhabited by the Muskogean-speaking peoples, and many Creek people lived here at the time of European contact. They traded with the Spanish and were recorded in records, travelers' accounts, and paintings of the era.

After the British took control of West Florida in 1764, the area was re-surveyed by Elias Durnford and a public square was laid out. The square reached east to west from Palafox Street to Alcaniz Street and north to south from Intendencia Street to Pensacola Bay.

In the 1960s, a group of local preservationists began working to save and restore this historic district. They organized several festivals in Seville Square and its gazebo. These events are now a major part of the city's cultural life, and they continue to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. A great place to also visit is Plaza Ferdinand VII Pensacola FL
