Maritime Park's development plans weren't asked to stay within a budget. During the October 7, 2017 meeting of the Homer City Council, Mayor Cushing announced that he had received an application for a grant from the Environmental Vocational Organization of Southeast Alaska (EVOS). This grant is to help the City pay for the design of the new Maritime Park. The application is due in three weeks. The Town Council will then review and approve the application before the bidding process can begin. The park will have LED lighting, artificial turf, and a playground area.

Council members asked about how long the plan would take, as well as how long the plan would be used. Mayor Cushing said he expected the plan to be used to pay for the construction costs of the park, as well as interpretive signs, and he believed that funds would be available to cover the cost of these items. He also commented that he was thankful to the Port of Seward and Harbor for their help with the plan, as well as the Parks and Recreation Commission.
