Santa Maria's first building was built in December 1883 by T.A. Jones. A year later, the two-story wooden structure was replaced by a brick structure. The building became the first home of the Santa Maria Times.

The next year, a new bank building was constructed on the northwest corner of Main Street and Broadway. It was the First National Bank of Santa Maria. In 1921, Frank Crakes took over as fire chief. He served in that position until 1966. The First Western Bank and Trust building were constructed on the northwest corner of Main and McClelland streets. The next article is Aquatic Center

In January 1884, a project of moving bodies began. By the end of the year, the U.S. Army acquired almost eighty thousand acres of land in the area. The building was also a three-bed ward for County Hospital. The building has then designated an object of historical merit.

In addition, the first city-owned waterworks were displayed in the Santa Maria Valley Historical Museum. A memorial monument for the ship Santa Maria was erected. The Santa Maria Historical Museum moved twice before finding its present location.

The first lynching in the town was held at Crisswell's Seventy-Six Saloon. The lynching was a result of a dispute between the owner of the building and the owner of the property on which the building stood. The owner of the building, Judge Thornburgh, saved the notary seal. The original building had been destroyed by fire the previous year. More

The first scout troop in the town was organized by the Boy Scouts of America. It was originally named Orcutt's Troop No. 91. The American Legion chartered the post in 1930. The group's members were elected to the Countywide Mission Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

During World War II, Camp Cooke was a training site for the infantry. It was also used as an armored training site. A large portion of the camp was purchased by the U.S. Army in March 1941. The camp was activated on October 5, 1941.

The first semi-professional football team in Santa Maria was the Santa Maria Redskins. They were the only semi-professional team in the city. They were managed by Scoop Nunes. The club also celebrated its 50th reunion in 1996 at the Rancho Bowl.

A year-long celebration of the city's Centennial started with a community kick-off picnic at the Elks Lodge. This was followed by an open house at the Carnegie Library, a centennial ceremony at the Masonic Lodge, and a concert. The celebration closed on September 11, 2005.

The year 2006 marks the 60th anniversary of the Santa Maria Indians' first scouting trip. The Indians' manager, Scoop Nunes, was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Mayor Lavagnino also congratulated the Indians on their 60th anniversary.
