UWF Aquatic Center

Located at the University Park, the UWF Aquatic Center is a public facility that offers a variety of aquatic and health promotion services. It was built in 1975 and recently underwent a $4.5 million renovation. In addition to swimming lessons and a variety of recreational activities, the center hosts outreach programs. Up next is Hitzman Optimist Park

The facility is an indoor Olympic-sized pool with 50-meter lanes and diving boards. It has a shallow end of 4 feet, 2 inches, and a deep end of 14 feet, 8 inches. It has two one-meter diving boards and a three-meter diving board. It also features a whirlpool and a sauna. The facility is open to the general public and offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification. Guests may purchase a Recreational Swim Membership. These are not pro-rated and are valid for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. These Memberships are non-refundable.

The UWF Aquatic Center hosts a variety of events, including large-scale events, such as Take Back the Night. It is also home to many outreach programs, such as the Stroke Clinic for middle schoolers. The facility is also an American Red Cross-authorized provider of swim lessons. During the winter months, the pool is regulated at 82 degrees year-round. In addition to open swimming, the facility hosts a number of other special programs, such as birthday parties, a water exercise class, and a stroke clinic for middle schoolers.

The facility also has a limited lap swim for adults, which is held Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8:45 p.m. for a fee of $5 per month. In addition to lap swim, the facility offers adult individual swimming, which is available during the summer and at certain times during the week.

The facility also features a group fitness studio for group fitness classes. It also has a 36-foot climbing wall and four courts for handball. A 1/8 mile track and a 10,000-square-foot Fitness Center complete the facility. The facility is administered by the Division of Student Affairs' Recreation & Sports Services, which provides all facilities within University Park. Browse around this site

The facility is open to the public, but visitors must first obtain a Visitor Permit from the Visitor's Center or Campus Police. Guests under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old. An adult over the age of 21 may supervise a maximum of two under-aged swimmers. A person may only swim in the lanes with Coast Guard Approved Personal Flotation Devices. If a lane is unavailable, the user must stay off the lane lines.

The facility is staffed with lifeguards for safety. However, the facility may be closed for maintenance or special events. In the event of an unexpected closure, UWF will not provide refunds or extensions. The facility is subject to closure for training or other special events, as well. It is important to check with the facility for updates on these schedules and events.

The UWF Aquatic Center is also an American Red Cross-authorized provider of swimming and diving lessons. Children may receive lessons in the evenings during the spring, summer, and fall. They can also participate in swimming and diving competitions.
